Minor A Hurling Championship

Although it was defeat for Kinvara in Ardrahan yesterday, it was the performance of the seasiders that was most pleasing, and gives confidence ahead of U16 and Minor Shields knockout stages. Kinvara were always going to be up against it against a very good Gort side, but to make matters worse we had to tog without our two senior hurlers - Conor Whelan (injured) and Tadgh Reynolds, while Ronan Kilkelly was confined to goals on his way back to recovery, while two other starters from earlier in the year were also absent. As a result, Kinvara started seven U16's and it was those lads who set the tone of the game.

The first half saw Gort take an early lead before Kinvara settled into the pace of the game, but once they did, they were well able to match their opponents. Half-time scoreboard read: Gort 2-7, Kinvara 1-5.

In the second half, Kinvara gradually crawled back the deficit, but credit to Gort as they never let us draw level. With only 6 minutes left on the clock there was only 2 points separating the sides. But Gort were to finish the stronger and they struck for two late goals to give the the winning eight point margin.

Again for Kinvara it was yet another game which we were short several key players. But the spirit and determination that the other lads played can be a great lift and we can now look forward to the Minor Shield quarter-final.

Kinvara team:
Ronan Kilkelly, Alan Keane, Shane Byrne, Stephen Bermingham, Sean Linnane, Caolan McMahon, James Cronin-Rogers, James O'Hara, Mark Bermingham, Gary Kilkelly, Neasan O'Hanrahan, Paddy Reid, Joe Tully, Ollie Nilan, Conor O'Shea.
Subs: John Donoghue (came on), Tommie Kavanagh (came on), Dara Flaherty (injured), Owen Whelan, Liam Byrne and Patrick O'Gallachoir.
