The prestigious Dr. McCarthy Cup final takes place again this La na gClub as our two u16 teams battle it out for the honours.

This Cup was presented to Kivara GAA way back in 1963 and we are delighted that the passion and commitment to win it is greater now than ever.

What is the origin of the Cup?
Over 50 years ago in 1962, an American tourist was travelling around Ireland. Dr. Francis McCarthy was a retired medic from Massachusetts, and as passing through Kinvara he stopped to chat to a local man, Richie Johnston. After an hour or so, Dr. McCarthy departed but left his camera behind. He returned about an hour later to find his camera in safe hands. To show his appreciation he gave a donation of $50. A cup was bought and donated to Kinvara GAA for the youth of the parish to play for. He was back again in 1963 to make an official presentation to the club.
The cup has been played down through the years.
