FROM THE ARCHIVES........Kinvara's first championship meeting against Sarsfields???

Its was actually in 1969.
Kinvara, after winning county intermediate in 1966, played senior for 4 years from 1967 to 1970.
In 1969 we played Sarsfields in the opening round, with the winner going on to play Moycullen in the quarter-final (it was a 18 team championship played in a striaght knockout format).
Sarsfields had just come up to senior themselves, but found the going tough as the final score was:

Kinvara team was:
Brendan Forde, Anthony Connors, PK Huban, Tom Curtin, Mattie Whelan, Haly Connors, Joe Connors, Colm Muldoon, Sean Weir, Leo Finn, Kevin Sexton, Tom Keane, Donagh Forde, Paul O' Shaughnessy, Bernie Connolly.
Kinvara scorers were:
Paul Shox 2-2, Kevin Sexton 1-2, Colm Muldoon 1-2, Tom Keane 0-3, Haly Connors 1-0, Bernie Connolly 1-0, Leo Finn 0-1.
The match report says "best of backs on the day were Joe Connors, Haly Connors and PJ Huban. Colm Muldoon was on top at centrefield and got most support from Sean Weir in the second half. The best forwards were Tom Keane, Kevin Sexton and Paul O'Shaughnessy."

Footnote 1:
In the quarter-final, Kinvara lost to Moycullen by 5-9 to 1-3. It was said in the match report that the "Kinvara squad had little training done in the previous fortnight, as most of the squad took part in the search for bodies of those drowned in New Quay".
