Kinvara v Beagh....Preview from Connacht Tribune

posted 1 May 2014, 14:12 by Garret Byrne
The following is the match preview in todays Connacht Tribune, by Stephen Glennon.

(Kenny Park, Athenry, Sat 3rd May 6:30pm)

Beagh showed their run to the 2013 county semi-final was no fluke when racing into a 2-6 to 0-1, 19th minute lead against Craughwell in the preliminary round......subsequently taking the victory on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-14.

Their half-forward line of Joe Gantley, Kieran Diviney and Kevin Keehan - scoring 2-14 between them - was hugely influential; however manger Brendan Gantley does have injury concerns with midfielder Damien Landers (dead leg) and Adrian Tuohy (knee) in a race to be fit for this one. It could see goalkeeper Kevin O'Grady once again deployed to an outfield role.

As for Kinvara, they have the unenviable task of getting their campaign up and running against a well-oiled outfit already buoyed by a victory. Ger Mahon (knee), Aidan Moylan (back) and Colm Burke (foot) are all injury concerns for manager Ollie Bergin. An added complication is Mahon working in London.

In any event, Kinvara were nothing if not plucky last year and could have qualified for the quarter-finals had they not been caught by Castlegar in injury time in their final group game. Tadhg Reynolds, Ronan Kilkelly and the wily Conor Whelan represent the next wave of Kinvara hurlers coming through.

Verdict: Beagh

Last meeting: 2011 (group stages) Beagh 5-17, Kinvara 1-11.
