Junior B Championship starts this weekend

Kinvara Junior B hurlers will be hoping to match the recent success of our seniors and U14s hurlers as they hit the field for their championship opener against Salthill on Sunday eve in Ballindereen at 7pm.

This opening match will be no easy game, as Salthill impressed in last years championship, only losing to eventual winners Ardrahan in the semi-finals, after topping their group undefeated. They have shown their intent already this year by last weekend winning the 2012 Junior B League final against Portumna. There is great work being done it the city club, and as this is their first team, they have strong ambitions to move up the ranks.

Kinvara, under manager John Linnane, have been busy of late playing several challenge matches against Oranmore-Maree, Kilbeacanty, Ardrahan and Gort. The team this year is freshened on two sides. Firstly it welcomes the addition of several experienced players such as Jonathon Kavanagh, Damien Huban, Dara Smith and Paul Sullivan. Secondly it is enfused with some new young talent with several of our minor hurlers/U21s pushing hard for team places. On top of these two groups, there is a good pool of other experienced hurlers who have served well in previous seasons.

Last year Kinvara did well in the League competition, but things in the championship group did not go well, as we lost all three matches. One can sense a difference from last year, and that the aims this year are high.

Saturday will be a tough match for both sides, and we hope to see you all there to support the lads in Ballindereen.
